Residents invited to rescheduled Portishead Line drop-in events
- Region & Route:
- Wales & Western: Great Western
Residents of Portishead and Pill are invited to meet the project team behind the restoration of the Portishead Line at two community drop-in events.
The events have been rescheduled following last week's extreme temperatures to ensure people can attend comfortably and safely.
The drop-in sessions will now take place on:
- Tuesday 14 July, 3.30pm to 7.30pm – Pill Community Centre
- Thursday 16 July, 3.30pm to 7.30pm – Somerset Hall, Portishead
Everyone is welcome to attend to find out more about the latest phase of work, speak with members of the project team and ask questions.
Invitations have been sent to households near the railway in Portishead and Pill, but all are welcome to attend.
The restoration of the Portishead Line, which has been closed to passenger services since 1964, is being funded by the Department for Transport, the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority and North Somerset Council. The railway will be delivered by Network Rail, with services operated by Great Western Railway (GWR).
Niall Spencer, senior sponsor for Network Rail's Great Western Route, said:
"We took the decision to postpone last week's drop-in events because of the extreme temperatures, as we wanted to make sure as many people as possible were able to attend comfortably and spend time speaking with the project team.
"I'd like to thank residents for their understanding. These events are an important opportunity for people to learn more about the work taking place and ask questions directly to the team.
"We're making great progress on the project to bring passenger services back to Portishead and Pill for the first time in more than 60 years, and we're proud to be delivering this scheme alongside the North Somerset Council, the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority, the DfT and GWR.
"I'd encourage anyone interested in the project to come along to one of the rescheduled sessions. If you're unable to attend, you can keep up to date and sign up for email updates at: www.networkrail.co.uk/portisheadline.”

About Network Rail
We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.
Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
