Residents invited to find out more as East Yorkshire footpath closes for Network Rail work

Network Rail is inviting residents to find out more about the closure of a footpath which runs between Hessle and North Ferriby.
The footpath was previously closed after a crack was found near the railway embankment and the closure allowed Network Rail engineers to install monitoring equipment.
Work now needs to take place to install a temporary flood defence system to protect the railway from coastal erosion. The work will see additional rock armour installed to stabilise the ground movement detected earlier this year. The work means that the footpath will be closed from Monday 3 December 2018 until Friday 15 March 2019.
During the previous closure, there were instances of trespass on the closed path, including one instance when someone walked along the railway lines. Network Rail will be installing anti-trespass fencing and people are urged to keep off the closed path.
Network Rail will be holding a public information event for those wishing to find out more about the work and the closure. This will take place on Monday 19 November between 16:00 and 19:00 at North Ferriby Village Hall.
Anyone who cannot make the event, but wishes to find out more, should call the Network Rail National Helpline on 03457 11 41 41. Workers from Network Rail will be on hand to answer any questions which residents may have.
Rob McIntosh, Route Managing Director for Network Rail, said: “We completely understand that this is a popular footpath with both tourists and residents and we would like start by apologising for the disruption this work will cause.
“The work is vital and needs to be done so that we can keep trains running reliably and safely. We want to keep residents informed of the work, which is why we are holding a public information event.
“We’d also like to remind people that it is incredibly dangerous to trespass on the railway and we implore people to obey the signs and keep off the footpath when it closes.”
