Residents invited to find out about improvements at Nottinghamshire level crossing

Network Rail is inviting residents in Attenborough and the surrounding area to find out more about plans to upgrade Nature Reserve level crossing to improve safety.

Early in 2017, Network Rail held a public consultation over the future of three level crossings in the area: Barratt Lane No. 1, Long Lane and Nature Reserve. Network Rail received over 1000 responses and the feedback showed that the majority of residents wished to keep access to the railway via the level crossings.

Network Rail has revised its initial proposal for Nature Reserve level crossing. The revised plan is for Miniature Stop Lights (MSLs) to be installed at the crossing in 2019. Initial survey work will take place in December of this year.

The newly installed technology will provide a clear message to users about when it is safe to cross. When the green light is lit up, users can cross the railway and when the red light is lit, users must wait at the crossing until the light turns green.

Network Rail is also looking to downgrade the status of crossing from a public bridleway to a public footpath and cycleway. To do this, Network Rail will apply to the Highway Authority for a Traffic Regulation Order. This would maintain access for all current users, apart from horse riders and Network Rail is working closely with stakeholders on this.

Network Rail is inviting residents to find out more about the plans by attending a public information event on Wednesday 5 December between 16:00 and 19:00 at Attenborough Village Hall.

Workers from Network Rail will be on hand to answer any questions which residents may have and will also provide an update on the other crossings in the area.
