REMINDER: RENEWING THE RAILWAY BETWEEN MACHYNLLETH AND PWLLHELI

Region & Route:
| Wales & Western: Wales & Borders
| Wales & Western
Smoother and more reliable train journeys will be the result of essential track renewals on the Cambrian line. This crucial investment by Network Rail is part of the company’s commitment to provide a safe and reliable railway for passengers in Wales. The railway line will be closed between Machynlleth and Pwllheli from Sunday 29 October, until Friday 3 November, to allow the replacement of rails and sleepers along this section of track. Mark Langman, Network Rail’s General Manager for Wales and the Marches, said: “As the owner and operator of the rail network in Wales, we are committed to ensuring the safe running of the railway.  “We will work closely with Arriva Trains Wales to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum for rail travellers during these essential works.” Bus replacement services will be provided by Arriva Trains Wales during the line closure.  Details of these services will be available at stations.  Customers are advised to always check journey details with the National Rail Enquiries on 08457 484950 before travelling.

Notes to editors

Arriva Trains Wales will be providing a replacement bus service during this period, with coaches operating between Machynlleth, Barmouth, Harlech, Porthmadog, Criccieth and Pwllheli. A mini-bus service will operate shorter distance journeys between small rail stations on the line to reduce journey times by road. Full details of replacement bus services will be shown on posters at stations and bus service coordinators will be on hand at Machynlleth, Barmouth and Pwllheli stations to help and answer questions.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
