Refurbishment works for Glasgow Central toilets

Region & Route:
Scotland’s Railway: Scotland

The station toilets at Glasgow Central will be closed this week while refurbishment works are carried out.

The toilets, located next to the Union Street entrance, will be closed from Monday March 9 until Monday March 16.

Temporary toilet blocks will be available for passengers, located at the top of the station concourse near the gateline to platforms 11-15.

The accessible toilet, changing places and baby changing facilities will be unaffected by the works and will remain open.

During the refurbishment, redundant turnstiles will be removed from the toilets – which are now free to use – with other minor maintenance works also being carried out on the facilities.

Drew Burns, station manager, said: “We are delivering these works as quickly as possible for passengers.

“The station toilets need to be renovated to remove unused turnstiles and improve the entrance to the facility for customers.

“We will have temporary toilet block available for passengers and our accessible toilets, baby changing facilities and changing place will be in use throughout this project.”

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
