Railway 200 marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of the modern railway.

So far, over 300 events celebrating the past, present and future of the railway have been scheduled across Britain over the coming year. More events are being added to Railway 200's website every week.

The following is a list of events in April and May.

East West Rail – talk on old and new bridges. Institution of Mechanical Engineers (Midland Region - Warwickshire Area).
Public talk organised by IMechE (also promoted by the Institute of Civil Engineers) on East West Rail, specifically renovating old bridges & installing new ones, ahead of reopening the line after 50 years.

The Preston & Longridge Railway, 1840-1967. Longridge Heritage Centre Trust.
To celebrate Railway 200 Longridge Heritage Centre will be telling the story of the Longridge & District Railway and Longridge railway station with a newly refurbished exhibition and a display of railway artefacts.
On Wednesday 16th April between 10.00 a.m. and 2.00 p.m. they will be running a "Train Day" for families featuring our popular model railway and children's activities.

Hastings Museum Railway 200 Exhibition. Hastings Museum and Art Gallery.
Hastings Museum & Art Gallery is joining in the national Railway 200 celebrations by installing an exhibition of local railway exhibits, dating back to the arrival of the railways in Hastings in the mid-19th century.
The exhibition opens at Hastings Museum and Art Gallery on Wednesday 2 April and runs until Sunday 29 June.

Railway 200 poetry competition. Lordshill Library in Southampton.
Lordshill Library is launching a Railway 200 poetry competition for both adults and children, running between April 2nd until July 31st 2025. The competition is open to individuals living in Hampshire, and the theme is Trains.
Feeling inspired? The theme is your favourite or first train journey?
One entry per person. All entries are free!
The 1st prize is travel voucher (on a train of course). The second prize is Railway 200 celebration book. All poems will be displayed at Lordshill Library throughout 2025 once the winner has been announced.
