Engineers are about to start a mega, once-in-a-generation package of work around Stalybridge station to drive down delays and deliver a better, more reliable and greener railway for passengers.

• Major Transpennine Route Upgrade work continues between Manchester Victoria and Stalybridge this weekend
• The latest stage of improvements include strengthening Williamson Street viaduct, upgrading more track at Miles Platting and installing new equipment for signalling cables
• The project will bring faster, more reliable services between Manchester and York, via Huddersfield and Leeds
• Trains between Manchester and Stalybridge will run via Manchester Piccadilly only (not Manchester Victoria) on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 October – passengers urged to check their journey

At the end of this month, railway engineers will be making major improvements to track and railway bridges between Manchester Victoria and Stalybridge and Manchester Victoria and Rochdale.

Passengers travelling in the North East are being advised to check before they travel on Sunday 24 February and for the next four weekends as Network Rail carries out work to upgrade signalling and track in the region.

Train customers are being urged to check their train times, station stops and walking routes ahead of Britain’s biggest train timetable change for decades.

The latest work to upgrade signalling in Huddersfield and Dewsbury will take place later this month as part of the Great North Rail Project, with passengers advised to check before they travel.

Network Rail will begin an £8.6million project to upgrade the railway at Newcastle station this weekend as part of the Great North Rail Project.
