Region & Route:
| Southern
The heroic efforts of Network Rail staff at King’s Cross Station during last year’s 7/7 bombings were given the Royal seal of approval last week with an invitation to Buckingham Palace. Station Manager Peter Armstrong-Cribb and Duty Station Manager Paul Chippington were invited to a special Royal Garden Party at the palace on Thursday 20 July in recognition of the part they played in the aftermath of the tragedy last year. Peter said: “I will never forget the tragic events of 7/7 but I feel immensely proud of the efforts of all of the staff at King’s Cross station on that terrible day. It was an honour to be invited to Buckingham Palace and an experience I will never forget.” Paul added: “I was honoured to be invited to Buckingham Palace, it was a once in a lifetime experience. The events of last July were tragic but I feel proud to have been part of such a courageous team of station staff.” Network Rail Director of Operations and Customer Services Robin Gisby said: “The efforts made by Paul, Peter and all of our staff during the atrocities of 7/7 highlight the way in which our people pull together in the face of adversary to do the best for passengers. This tremendous honour is no less than they deserve and I wholeheartedly congratulate them.”

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
