Children from all over the county were invited to the stand to identify the dangers on our ‘Norfolk Show’ railway.  The children spotted the hole in the fence,  a football on the track, vandalised signs, an open gate and a discarded kite.             PC Chris Manders explains:  “The idea of the railway set-up was to highlight the potential dangers of the railway.  Asking the children to point out the dangers meant that we could see that they understood and we were then confident that they’ll stay safe and play safe. - more - Norfolk – 2 “Railway crime has been steadily reducing in the Norfolk area – but we can’t afford to be complacent.  Education is the key to combating railway crime.  Our stand looked at the dangers the railway can pose and in a safe environment, showed children why they must stay away from the railway.” Each child won a family train ticket to London, a family ticket to the London Transport Museum and £50 spending money. The winners were: Name Age School Deanne Tanner 13 Taverham High School Ryan Wilsea 12 Taverham High School Harriet Cox 8 Bure Valley School Phoenix Pentney 5 Parkers Primary School

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
