Paw-terloo Upgrade: Battersea dogs lend a paw ahead of bank holiday work
Two ambassa-dogs from London's Battersea Dogs Home joined staff at Waterloo this morning (22 August, 2017) in warning passengers of upcoming disruption to their journeys from 24-28 August, as three weeks of upgrade work at London's busiest station reach their climax this weekend.
Millie and Mollie, a pair of Jack Russells, spent the morning meeting passengers travelling through the station, while humans from Network Rail advised passengers of changes to their journeys later this week and over the bank holiday weekend.
Work to extend platforms 1-4 and modify platforms 5-8 reaches its conclusion this weekend. In order to complete the necessary signalling work ahead of Tuesday 29 August, platforms 1-14 will be closed from 24-28 August.
Passengers are advised to avoid travelling if possible, or to allow longer to complete their journeys as a result of the significant reduction in services during this time.
Becky Lumlock, route managing director at Network Rail, said: "We're into the final stages of the August upgrade at Waterloo, and from 24-28 August our work will have an even bigger impact on services using the lines to and from Waterloo.
"This is while we carry out essential signalling work to allow us to bring the longer platforms into use by Tuesday.
"I'd like to thank passengers for their ongoing patience this month, as well as our helpers Mollie and Mille for helping to spread the word."
