As temperatures continue to drop this winter, passengers at Brondesbury station will be able to keep warm and dry in the comfort of a new waiting room.
Almost £200,000 has been invested in the new facility, funded by the Strategic Rail Authority (SRA) and delivered by Network Rail, to provide a comfortable and safe waiting area for passengers to shelter from the elements.
Jon Wiseman, Network Rail Route Director said:
“Getting people from A to B on time is important to the rail industry, but so are station amenities. Stations are the gateway to travel by rail and form a vital part of the journey experience for passengers. Comfortable stations with modern facilities are an important part of our continued programme to re-build the railway.”
The station improvements form part of a national scheme to enhance facilities for passengers at 68 stations across the country, including Kensal Rise, Brondesbury Park and West Hampstead, which have also received new waiting rooms.
Brondesbury station is owned by Network Rail and managed by train operator Silverlink. Robin Hancock, Silverlink Duty Station Manager, added:
“The improvements at Brondesbury have greatly enhanced the station environment, creating a warm, comfortable area for passengers to wait for trains. The new waiting room will be a great benefit to our customers using the station, particularly at this time of year.”.
The waiting room was today officially opened by Glenda Jackson, MP for Hampstead and Highgate, who welcomed the new facility. She said:
“"I am delighted that my constituents can now benefit from a new waiting room to keep them warm and dry."
About Network Rail
We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.
Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
