Passengers urged to check before they travel on Christmas Eve

The latest round of RMT strikes will severely limit rail services on Christmas Eve and passengers are being urged to check their journey before travelling.

In Scotland, RMT members at Network Rail will be on strike from 18:00 on Christmas Eve until 06:00 on December 27.

On Christmas Eve, passenger services will stop much earlier than usual with ScotRail services winding down from 15:00 and ending by around 18:00.

On cross-border routes, the last trains leaving for London on Christmas Eve will depart at 08:00 from Edinburgh Waverley and at 10:40 from Glasgow Central.

No passenger services traditionally run on Christmas Day, but passengers are reminded that the limited service that usually runs on Boxing Day will not operate this year due to the strike action.

On December 27, services will start later than normal and passengers should check with their train operator on when individual services will resume.

ScotRail services will operate on a normal timetable between Wednesday, December 28, and Friday, December 30.

Passengers using cross-border trains on these dates should check their journey in advance.

Liam Sumpter, route director for Network Rail Scotland, said: “We understand the frustration and inconvenience this latest round of strike action will cause for our customers.

“We are sorry for the disruption passengers will face throughout the festive period and would urge those who need to travel to plan their journey and check what services are running in advance.

“We remain committed to working with the RMT to find a solution to this dispute, but we also need to agree a deal that is fair on the taxpayers who fund our railway.”
