Passengers are urged to check before they travel as final piece of £50million upgrade to railway in East Yorkshire takes place

Network Rail is advising passengers to check before they travel as the final piece of a major upgrade to signalling and level crossings in East Yorkshire takes place.

On Saturday 1 December and Sunday 2 December, buses will replace trains between Hull, Selby and Goole as control of the signalling moves from old style, lineside mechanical signal boxes to Network Rail’s state-of-the-art operating centre in York.

To allow this to take place, no trains will be able to run on the line and bus replacement services will be in operation with passengers advised to plan ahead.

The project is part of the Great North Rail Project and, once completed, will provide passengers with a more modern and reliable railway for the future. As well as an upgrade to the signalling, the project has also seen upgrades to 11 level crossings in the county which has improved safety.

Rob McIntosh, Route Managing Director at Network Rail said: “This is an important weekend which will see the final step in this project which will bring tangible benefits for motorists and pedestrians.

"There’s never an ideal time to upgrade the railway and we are working closely with the train operating companies to keep any disruption to a minimum.

“We apologise for any inconvenience and thank passengers in advance for their patience whilst we deliver this final and vital element of the project which will create a more modern and reliable railway which will meet the needs of the communities and economies our railway serves.”

Passengers are also reminded that there are bus replacement services this weekend between Selby and Howden; between Brough and Hull; between Selby and Hull and between Goole and Hull calling at all stations.
