ON-TRACK APPRENTICE CAMPAIGN RECEIVES DOUBLE AWARD

Region & Route:
National

Network Rail's campaign to recruit the next generation of engineering talent to build Britain's growing railway has won two awards from leading resourcing magazine Recruiter.

The in-house team which recruits for Network Rail's advanced apprenticeship scheme won 'most effective recruitment strategy' and the 'best candidate experience' awards.

Adrian Thomas, head of resourcing for Network Rail said: "The rail network is running more trains, more punctually and more safely than ever before. To build an even bigger and better railway for passengers, we need a highly-skilled and talented workforce; our apprenticeship scheme enables us to train people in the very latest technology and skills to help us deliver this.

"It is vital that we attract and retain the best candidates. These awards are great recognition of how we have made a place on our apprentice scheme incredibly sought after, and that candidates' experience is a positive one, which my experience tells me elsewhere is not always the case. On all fronts our scheme continues to go from strength to strength."

The best candidate experience award was given to an employer’s internal recruitment team to recognise outstanding service and care for candidates, ensuring that each is treated with professionalism throughout the recruitment process and aiming to provide a uniquely positive experience to all. The winning entry will provide evidence of a successful candidate experience programme.

The most effective recruitment strategy award was given to the company that demonstrated an outstanding example of how an internal recruitment team has succeeded in achieving a recruitment goal through reaching specific targets in a highly efficient way. The winning entry will explain in clear language how the strategy was developed and its implementation, along with the strategy’s targets and how they were achieved.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
