NORTH EAST RAIL REPAIRS AHEAD OF SCHEDULE

Region & Route:
Scotland’s Railway: Scotland

Following the return of a limited service between Dundee and Aberdeen this morning, Network Rail is pleased to inform rail users that full repairs to the line are expected to be completed by tomorrow evening (Saturday 7 November) with services returning to normal from Sunday.

Up to 2,000 tons of material became dislodged at a line-side site in Logie, north of Montrose during severe flooding earlier this week.

Between Inverness and Aberdeen, repairs to flood damage on three stretches of track are continuing to progress well and services are expected to resume on Saturday morning.

David Simpson, Network Rail route director, Scotland commented:

“In that last few of days, our teams have made excellent progress repairing the damage caused by severe flooding across the North East and at Logie in particular we have been able to substantially improve on our original estimate for completion of those repairs. This work required the laying of a temporary road surface and moving over 2,000 tonnes of rock and earth. It’s a tribute to our teams that they were able to complete the repairs in such a short time and we look forward to getting back to full service again in the North East.”

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
