Network Rail to improve Finsbury Park bridge over Christmas

Engineers are spending their Christmases carrying out vital improvements to strengthen a railway bridge just south of Finsbury Park station, which carries the busy East Coast Main Line.

After the last train on Christmas Eve, work will take place to upgrade the wooden timber – which runs over the bridge and the rail attaches to - with a stronger replacement, to make sure it remains fit for purpose for years to come.

Teams will also improve the track on the approach to the bridge to bring smoother, more reliable services for passengers and reduce the amount of maintenance required in the future.

Carrying out this work on Christmas Day and Boxing Day - before timetabled train services resume for passengers on Monday 27 December – avoids disruption at busier times and means it can be completed safely with no trains in the area.

Gary Munns, Project Manager, said: “I’m looking forward to spending the festive period with my team working on this project to improve the bridge, which will make sure train services can continue running safely and reliably.

“Carrying out these vital improvements on Christmas Day and Boxing Day gives us the opportunity to complete the work safely and efficiently, without causing disruption for passengers.”
