Network Rail issues reminder of road closure to survey Graigieg Bridge

Region & Route:
Scotland’s Railway: Scotland
  • A830 near Glenfinnan will be closed from 22:00hrs Tuesday 12 July until 06:00hrs Wednesday 13 July

Network Rail is reminding residents and motorists of a road closure scheduled to take place next week while we survey Graigieg Bridge, East of Glenfinnan Station.

As part of our commitment to providing a safe and reliable railway, our engineers will be conducting a structural survey of the bridge from 22:00hrs Tuesday 12 July until 06:00hrs Wednesday 13 July.

An overnight road closure of the A830 Glenfinnan to A861 Drumsallie Junction has been agreed with our trunk road maintainer, Bear Scotland during these times.

However, regular openings will be made available to traffic for a short period every 15 minutes.

Darren Dickson, Scheme Project Manager for Network Rail, said: “The work we are undertaking next week will provide vital information on the condition of Graigieg Bridge and is crucial for the long-term future reliability of the line.

“Working on the railway at night offers the safest environment for our teams and causes the least disruption to our passengers and freight trains. However, we understand the inconvenience this work will cause some people.

“We would like to thank those affected for their patience and understanding and offer assurances that every effort has been made to reduce the impact of our activities as much as possible.”

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
