Network Rail invites residents and passengers in Leeds to find out more about platform zero

Network Rail is inviting passengers and residents in Leeds to an upcoming public information event to find out more about the work taking place to construct a new platform.

Platform zero is a £161m project to increase capacity at Leeds station in order to meet the growing demand for rail travel. The new platform will help to reduce train congestion by enabling more trains to use the station with more seats, helping more trains to run on time.

Work to build the new platform includes changes to the track, signalling and overhead power lines, as well as additional work to untangle the tracks that currently serve platforms one to six. Network Rail will also carry out upgrades to the signalling systems across the entire station to improve train performance.

To find out more, residents and passengers are encouraged to come to the public information event on Friday, 13 March 2020 between 1pm and 7pm at The Queens Hotel, City Square, Leeds, LS1 1PJ.

Members of the project team will be on hand to answer any questions and share Network Rail’s future development plans for the station.

Andy Martin, Programme Manager for Network Rail said: “The addition of the new platform will bring more opportunities for travel in and around the city, as well as creating the much-needed additional space for trains to match the increasing need for rail travel.

“The public information event will give people the opportunity to learn more about the project and discuss any questions or concerns they may have.”
