Network Rail has completed improvements to 14 car parks across the South as part of a joint commitment with South West Railway (SWR) to improve facilities for passengers.

Work has now been completed on Worcester Park and Witley stations in Surrey, and Farnborough stations in Hants.

Since 1 April 2020, there have been upgrades to a further eleven stations across the SWR network including Sunningdale, Effingham Junction and Weybridge in Surrey, Botley, New Milton and Hinton Admiral station in Hampshire, Honiton in Devon and Salisbury station in Wiltshire.

The work at the car parks included resurfacing work, repainting lines, marking out safe walking routes, removing trip hazards and improvements to drainage so rain water doesn’t form puddles.

Andrew Magee, senior asset engineer, Network Rail Wessex said: “The improvements will make travelling to and from the stations much easier, safer and provide passengers with a better experience.

“This is part of an ongoing commitment to put passengers first, where we’re improving stations which are at the heart of communities.”

Christian Neill, deputy customer experience director at SWR said: “At SWR, we are entirely committed to improving every stage of the journey, including arriving at and departing from our stations via car.

“These changes will significantly improve the experience of using our stations, making it easier and safer for customers to park, make their way to the platform and leave the station on their return journey”.

This is part of Network Rail’s continued commitment to make the experience better for passengers which will continue in the years to come.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
