Nantwich residents reminded of upgrade work to Newcastle Road level crossing

Nantwich residents and rail passengers are reminded of the temporary closure Newcastle Road level crossing in January, as Network Rail team deliver essential renewal work to the crossing.

Between Saturday 5 January and Monday 14 January, the level crossing will be closed to pedestrians and vehicles whilst Network Rail teams replace the road surface and install a new rubber crossing. There will be a signposted diversionary route in place for vehicles and a minibus service will run at peak times to assist pedestrians from one side of the crossing to the other. This service will run from Monday 7 January until Friday 11 January between the hours of 7.30am – 9.30am and 3.30pm - 7.30pm.

Trains will be able to run over the crossing during the week days, with rail replacement buses in operation between Shrewsbury and Crewe during the two weekends of the closure.

Sean Wootton, programme manager for Network Rail Wales and Borders, said: “We thank the local community and passengers for their patience while we carry out essential renewal work to Newcastle Road level crossing.

“We have been working closely with train operators and Cheshire Council to minimise disruption. The work will make the crossing safer and more resistant to extreme weather conditions and will result in less temporary closures in the future, as less maintenance work will be required. Our lineside neighbours will also benefit from a quieter environment from both vehicles and trains passing over the crossing.”
