Passengers are being advised to expect busier services as music festivals expect to bring in more people this weekend.
Services leaving Manchester towards Warrington and Liverpool and all services leaving Liverpool are expected to be busier than normal this bank holiday weekend.
BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend festival is coming to Sefton Park in Liverpool on Friday 23 May until Sunday 25th May.
Elsewhere, Neighbourhood Weekender festival will be held in Victoria Park in Warrington Saturday 24 May and Sunday 25 May.
Also, on Monday 26 May, Liverpool fans are expected to watch the club's Premier League open top bus parade through the city.
Rachel Rahbazare, Liverpool Lime Street station manager said: “‘Please be aware that queuing systems will be in place at Liverpool Lime Street and Manchester Piccadilly over the May Bank Holiday weekend. We are expecting a high volume of customers, particularly for services to Warrington and Liverpool.
“Trains are expected to be extremely busy. If the weather is warm, it may also become hot on board, so please travel with enough water to stay hydrated.”
“We recommend you plan your journey in advance and allow extra travel time. We’ll be doing everything we can to keep you safely and efficiently on the move.”
As well as the festivals, essential engineering upgrades are being carried out across the weekend to improve passenger journeys. As a result, some journeys may take longer and involve a rail replacement bus service.
Passengers can check their journeys at www.nationalrail.co.uk for the latest travel information.
Notes to Editors
Between Saturday 24 – Monday 26 May, no trains will serve Warrington Bank Quay station due to planned engineering work. Rail replacement services will be in place to and from Warrington Bank Quay. Those travelling to Neighbourhood Weekender by train should travel via Warrington Central.

About Network Rail
We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.
Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
