MEDIA UPDATE: EDINBURGH WAVERLEY DERAILMENT

At 17:55 last night (Wednesday) an out-of-service ScotRail train became derailed on approach to Edinburgh Waverley station.
The front bogey (set of wheels) on the rear train unit left the rail as a result of the incident. The train was carrying no passengers and two crew, neither of whom was injured.
The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) has been on-site conducting its official investigation since the early hours of this morning.
Once those checks are complete our engineers will be able to begin their recovery operation.
We are continuing to work with train operators to run as many services as possible today. Some services tomorrow are also likely to be affected due to repair works.
David Simpson, Network Rail route managing director for Scotland, said: “The RAIB is currently on-site conducting its investigation into last night’s derailment. Once the RAIB hands the site back, our engineers will be able to assess any damage to the infrastructure and prepare for the removal of the vehicle.
“We are working with train operators to run as many services as possible today and will restore more services as soon as we can.”
