MEDIA INVITE: DEREK TWIGG MP CELEBRATES £12M INVESTMENT IN STATIONS

Date:               Thursday 14 July 2005 Time:              12-2pm Location:        Reception at Liverpool Street station (‘one’ first class lounge, plat 10), followed by photocall at Seven Kings station - transport provided Journalists, photographers and film crews are invited to a reception and photocall with Derek Twigg MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Transport, to mark the completion of a £12 million programme to enhance station facilities in the East of England.  Passengers at 38 stations across Greater London, Essex, Suffolk, Herts, Beds and Cambs are now benefiting from new and modern facilities as part of a national scheme to improve station facilities across the country.  The facilities include new waiting rooms, waiting shelters, CCTV, customer information screens, baby changing facilities and modern toilets. Funded by the Strategic Rail Authority and delivered by Network Rail, the ‘Modern Facilities at Stations’ project represents a total investment of £25 million into 68 stations nationwide, as part of the rail industry’s commitment to improving the journey experience for rail users. Members of the media will have the opportunity to speak to the new transport minister at the reception, along with representatives from Network Rail, ‘one’ and the SRA.  Refreshments will also be provided.  The party will then board a train to Seven Kings station (Ilford, Essex) to view some of the new facilities and the minister will unveil a commemorative plaque.  Please confirm attendance to Laura Dobson in the Network Rail press office on                        020 7557 8103 or Laura.Dobson@networkrail.co.uk.
