Region & Route:
| Wales & Western: Wales & Borders
| Wales & Western
Date: Friday 20 July 2007 Time: 10:30am Venue: Llanelli level crossing, adjacent to Llanelli Station Contact: Network Rail Media Relations, 01793 515267 Level crossing misuse now represents the largest single risk of a train accident on the railway in Wales. Network Rail will be reminding level crossings users of the dangers of level crossing misuse this Friday at Llanelli level crossing - one of the most misused crossings in the region. Network Rail has joined forces with the British Transport Police, Arriva Trains Wales and local MP Nia Griffith as part of its Don’t run the risk campaign to highlight the severe risks drivers, cyclists and pedestrians take in ignoring red signals, barriers and klaxons at level crossings. The Don’t run the risk team will be on site at the level crossing adjacent to Llanelli Station, where they will be reminding people of the dangers of level crossing misuse and giving facts and advice about how to use crossings safely. Network Rail’s Don’t run the risk campaign was launched in May 2006. Its aim is to change the behaviour of level crossing users – to protect themselves and reduce the danger to train passengers

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
