Manchester Piccadilly travelator closed for urgent repairs
- Region & Route:

- | North West & Central: North West
Passengers travelling through Manchester Piccadilly’s platforms 13 and 14 are being advised of work to repair one of the travelators.
The work means that from Monday 6 January, one travelator will be closed and the other stationary for two weeks.
The travelator, which takes passengers towards the waiting lounge of the station to access platforms 13 and 14, broke down in November because of an internal malfunction.
Over Christmas, the station saw 3.1 million passengers travel through. The work is taking place during the quieter January period.
Passengers are advised to use the stairs on platform 10, the stationary travelator, or the lift on Fairfield Street to move between the satellite lounge and the main concourse.
Kyla Thomas, Manchester Piccadilly’s station manager, said: “I’m very sorry for the disruption the closure of one of our travelators will cause passengers travelling via platforms 13 and 14.
“Unfortunately, repairs are required before it can safely move again, and we did not want to do this work over our busy Christmas period.
“I’d advise passengers to allow more time for their journey and to use the stairs on platform 10 if possible. If you need assistance reaching platforms 13 and 14, please book assisted travel in advance or visit our assisted travel lounge.”
The work is scheduled to be completed on 24th January 2025.

About Network Rail
We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.
Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
