London Euston passengers advised to check before travelling on Spring bank holiday weekend
- Region & Route:
- North West & Central
- | North West & Central: West Coast Mainline South
Passengers travelling during the upcoming Spring bank holiday weekend have been urged to plan ahead due to strike action.
On Friday 22 May and Saturday 23 May strike action on London Northwestern Railway services will mean a very limited service will be in operation.
London Northwestern services on both dates will operate to a reduced timetable with no trains running after 7pm on Friday and a later 7am start of service on Saturday. This includes trains from Birmingham to Liverpool and both Birmingham and Northampton to London Euston. London Northwestern passengers are advised to only travel if necessary. Avanti West Coast services are expected to be very busy.
Gary Walsh, West Coast South route director for Network Rail, said: “Passengers should check their journeys before travelling this Spring bank holiday weekend, as strike action affecting London Northwestern Railway services will mean a very limited service on some routes. London Northwestern services that do run are expected to be very busy.
“We know this is a busy time for travel and we’re sorry for the disruption this will cause. If you do need to travel, please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journey."
Passengers should also be aware of upcoming disruption around Euston at the end of the month. On Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 May, teams from Network Rail will complete key drainage improvement works near Milton Keynes and HS2 construction activity will take place outside Euston, in preparation for Britain's new high-speed railway. This will mean a reduced timetable, but the station will remain open and trains will continue to run.
Additionally, the London Overground Lioness Line will not be operating over the same weekend, while essential maintenance work takes place. Passengers intending to travel to Wembley stadium on these dates are advised to check before they travel. Travel advice ahead of Wembley weekend of sport.
Passengers are encouraged to check www.nationalrail.co.uk for the latest travel information and West Coast Main Line upgrades - Network Rail to find out more.

About Network Rail
We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.
Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
