Network Rail is set to bolster its signalling design capability by some 20% within the next few weeks as it brings on board 25 employees from Lloyd’s Register Rail signalling design group, which is based in Reading Since Network Rail decided to create it own ‘in-house’ signalling design team some 18 months ago, it has been steadily recruiting expertise from across the industry and now boasts some 120 people. Announcing the news, Iain Coucher, Network Rail’s Deputy Chief Executive, said: “This large injection of skills, experience and expertise is a welcome addition to Network Rail’s growing signalling design capability. “We have recently embarked upon several massive re-signalling schemes, but with many more being developed, these 25 new employees will be kept very busy.  We look forward to welcoming them aboard – and to a continued working relationship with Lloyd’s Register Rail and the support of its core services of independent consultancy and validation across a wide range of rail activities."  Paul Thomas, Managing Director of Lloyd's Register Rail UK, added: "For our part, Lloyd's Register Rail is committed to continuing to serve the UK  and global rail industry across the whole range of rail activities.”Network Rail and Lloyd's Register Rail have signed a ‘memorandum of understanding’, with the formal transfer of employees expected to be complete in early August.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
