A plaque honouring Liverpool as the host city for the contest in 2023 has been presented at Liverpool Lime Street station.

In 2023, Liverpool Lime Street welcomed superfans to its city when it hosted the contest on behalf of the people of Ukraine.

As part of the welcoming party, 170 Eurovision song contest superfans were given a rapturous welcome into Liverpool Lime Street station by drag queens, drummers and dancers.

Now, two years later, as Eurovision made its return for 2025, the station have created a plaque to celebrate that moment which will sit in the station museum for all to see.

Phil James, Network Rail’s North West route director, said: The plaque commemorates a significant moment in the city’s history, one that united art, culture and solidarity.

The railway industry played a crucial part in welcoming visitors from all over the world to Liverpool, and this plaque, which was beautifully designed by one of our station colleagues, ensures we can preserve and cherish that memory for years to come.”

Councillor Harry Doyle, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Culture said: It’s great to be able to come together to unveil the plaque to celebrate Liverpool hosting Eurovision on behalf of Ukraine in 2023.

It was a fantastic time from start to finish, visitors entering the city via Lime Street station and experiencing the city for all it has to offer. It was a great collaboration, and this plaque is a testament to that.”

The plaque can be found in Liverpool Lime Street's 'mini museum', where all of its railway artefacts are showcased.

We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
