| North West & Central: Central

The railway, canals and historic houses of Warwickshire have joined forces to reward sustainable travel this Easter with a complimentary cup of tea.

Thanks to a partnership between Network Rail’s Central route, the National Trust, Chiltern Railways, West Midlands Railway and waterways charity Canal & River Trust, passengers can soak up the beauty of spring while enjoying a free hot drink when travelling by train to Baddesley Clinton and Packwood House.

From now until 1 June 2025, visitors who take the train from Birmingham Moor Street to Lapworth Station can present their same-day train ticket at the on-site café of either property to receive a free regular tea or coffee.

Both National Trust properties are within two miles of Lapworth Station which is directly accessible from Birmingham Moor Street. Visitors can embrace nature by walking to either destination using the provided walking routes—reducing their carbon footprint while staying active.

Visitors can also easily access two of England's outstanding canals from Lapworth station and see for themselves the interesting sights of the Lapworth Flight of locks on the Stratford-upon-Avon Canal and Kingswood Junction where this waterway joins together with the Grand Union Canal.

Fraser Pithie, communities manager at Network Rail Central route, said: "Spring is the perfect time to hop on a train, embrace nature, and explore some of the UK's most remarkable heritage sites - all while enjoying a complimentary cup of tea.

“As the UK celebrates 200 years of the birth of the modern railway this year, what better way to mark the occasion than by stepping back in time at Packwood House or Baddesley Clinton.”

Gurminder Kenth, general manager at the National Trust, said: “Every small step towards sustainability counts, and visiting Packwood House or Baddesley Clinton allows you to enjoy nature while reducing your carbon footprint."

This Easter, make your journey from Moor Street to Lapworth and indulge in a relaxing day out with family and friends. Whether you're exploring the beautiful gardens of Packwood or uncovering the secrets of Baddesley, the combination of history, nature, spring and a free hot drink awaits you.”

Michael Stewart, commercial and customer strategy director at Chiltern Railways, said: “As we move through spring, it is the perfect time of the year to visit these two historic locations and we are proud to work together with National Trust so that customers travelling from Birmingham Moor Street can receive a free hot drink on arrival.

“We are determined to provide an easier, greener, and better railway for our customers and this sustainable initiative fits perfectly with our aims for the future.”

Jonny Wiseman, customer experience director at West Midlands Railway, said: “As we journey into spring, we’re delighted to be continuing our partnership with National Trust to offer a free hot drink to those who travel by train from Moor Street.

"Travelling by rail gives visitors a chance to start enjoying their day out as soon as they set off, taking in the scenery along the route to Lapworth before a rejuvenating walk to Packwood or Baddesley.”

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
