Have a spooktacular Halloween at Glasgow Central

Region & Route:
Scotland’s Railway: Scotland

You’re in for a scare if you pass through Glasgow Central this Saturday (29 October) as the station hosts a frightful family fun day for Halloween.

The free event will take place between 11:00 and 15:00 and will feature a bouncy castle as well as scary face painting, games and live music.

Visitors are invited to wear their spookiest costume and there will be prizes for the best dressed in three age categories – babies to five years, six to 11years and 12 years and above.

Due to its popularity last year, Central will also be hosting its pumpkin carving competition which is now open to entries. Just hand your carved pumpkins in to Network Rail’s station reception so that they can be displayed on the main concourse before the winning design is selected on Saturday afternoon.

The station’s costume and pumpkin carving competitions will be judged at 13:00 on the main concourse.

Shift station manager Chris King said: “We’re all really excited about our Halloween fun day this Saturday and can’t wait to see everyone’s costumes.

“Central is always a lively place but it’s great to have the opportunity to host an open event and welcome the wider community in to the station.

“All of our activities are free so it’s the perfect way to keep your children occupied for an afternoon and we have lots of fantastic prizes to give away which have been donated by our train operators and station retailers.”

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
