Blandford Road Bridge in Hamworthy has been given the all clear after staff from Network Rail and Poole Council braved the winter conditions to tackle unsightly graffiti.  The bridge has been completely repainted. David Pape, Network Rail’s Wessex Route Director, said: “Graffiti and vandalism are anti-social crimes that affects the passengers and staff who travel on the railway each day.  We are determined to tackle graffiti and vandalism on the railway and send out a clear message that they will not be tolerated. We welcome any help that members of the public can give us in catching those responsible.” Anyone with any information should call the British Transport Police on 0800 405040. The latest work follows a blitz on graffiti by Network Rail, which will continue to work alongside the Borough of Poole and the British Transport Police to tackle graffiti and catch those responsible.  Councillor Ron Parker, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Local Economy, Borough of Poole, said: “We are glad when other organisations such as Network Rail work with us to improve the street scene environment for the benefit of everybody in Poole.  With more of this sort of cooperation we can minimise the nuisance that graffiti causes whether it be on the Borough of Poole’s property or not.”

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
