Glasgow railway line to close for emergency repair work

Region & Route:
Scotland’s Railway: Scotland

Passengers are being advised to plan ahead if travelling through the Cathcart Circle.

Passengers are being advised to plan for disruption on the Cathcart Circle this weekend as emergency works begin.

Engineers will repair a boundary wall between Queens Park and Crosshill Stations from late on Saturday night into Monday morning after damage was found during a routine inspection.

ScotRail’s Glasgow Central to Newton and Neilston services will be diverted via Maxwell Park on Sunday, so may take longer than normal.

Work will be carried out to avoid further deterioration of the wall and to protect the safety of passengers.

Gary Hopkirk, Works Delivery Director, Network Rail Scotland, said: “During a routine inspection, we discovered a problem with a boundary wall between Queens Park and Crosshill stations.

“To avoid any further deterioration, we need to carry out repair work from late on Saturday night until Monday morning. While this work is essential, it is likely to cause some noise for residents on Dixon Avenue, we will do everything we can to minimise this.

“We thank passengers and lineside neighbours for their patience during this time.”

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
