Glasgow Central station launches multi-faith area

Region & Route:
Scotland’s Railway: Scotland

Passengers travelling through Glasgow Central station can now enjoy a quiet moment to pray or reflect more easily, thanks to the station’s new multi-faith area.

Opening June 3, the new facility offers passengers added privacy to pray or meditate while they wait for their train or before continuing their onward journey.

Anyone wishing to use the area should simply contact a member of station staff who will lead them to the room which is located between platforms 11 and 15.

Drew Burns, Station Manager at Glasgow Central station, said: “At a recent team meeting, we were discussing what Glasgow Central needs as a station to be a better place for passengers and one of the suggestions was a multi-faith area.

“Ross Kerr, (Shift Station Manager), has worked hard to organise the room very quickly. And we’re proud that we can now offer a bit of a reprieve from the hustle and bustle to anyone who would prefer to pray in private or just a quiet space to someone who may be feeling anxious.”

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
