Glasgow Central food bank donation drive

Glasgow Central station is urging commuters to show their generosity next Wednesday when Scotland’s busiest station hosts a food bank collection to support Glasgow City Mission.

On June 22, a 12-hour donation drive is being held at the station and passengers and railway staff are being asked to contribute what they can.

Organised by station officer Jim Frizzle, the donation drive is the largest of its kind to be held in Scotland and is now in its third year after launching in 2014 – when a nine months’ supply for food was collected at the station in just one day.

With a footfall of over 100,000 passengers every day, the Central station team are confident they will once again see a huge response of Glasgow’s commuters.

Jim said: “Every year the generosity of people passing through the station is just overwhelming. The donations we collect will make a real difference and we hope that passengers will want to get involved and support those in our community who are struggling.”

The food bank collection will be running on Wednesday from 07:00-19:00. A collection point on the concourse, manned by staff volunteers, will take the donations.

The list of items that Glasgow City Mission needs includes:

• Tinned meat meals (stew, curry, pies etc.)
• Tinned meat or fish (ham, tuna etc.)
• Tinned fruit or vegetables
• Tinned puddings
• Breakfast cereal and UHT long-life milk
• Coffee
• Sugar
• Diluting juice
• Toiletries
