Free and fast WiFi for Edinburgh Waverley station passengers

Region & Route:
Scotland’s Railway: Scotland

Passengers at Edinburgh Waverley station can now get free and unlimited WiFi which is fast enough to support video calls and streaming.

Network Rail’s upgraded service uses the latest technology so passengers can connect multiple devices without having to create an account to log in.

It’s certified as ‘Friendly WiFi’ which means it complies with the Government’s safe filtering standards for the public and is child friendly.

Free WiFi has consistently been identified by passengers as one of the key improvements that would enhance their station experience.

The new, unlimited WiFi service is being rolled out across Network Rail managed stations nationwide, with Glasgow Central also recently benefitting from the upgrade.

The WiFi upgrade is part of a number of wider improvements being undertaken at Edinburgh Waverley to improve the station and provide better passenger facilities.

A complete refurbishment of the toilets, the installation of a Changing Place facility and a new through route connecting the east concourse (platforms 2-5) to the ticket hall are some of the improvement works being undertaken at Edinburgh Waverley to improve passenger experience.

Patrick Henry, station manager at Edinburgh Waverley said, “We are delighted to offer passengers at Edinburgh Waverley access to fast and free WiFi.

“Surveys have regularly identified this as something passengers have been asking for at the station and we have delivered.

“We are confident that it will welcomed and well-used as people return to the railway in ever increasing numbers post-pandemic.”

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
