FOOTPATHS CLOSING FOR RAILWAY WORK

Region & Route:
| Southern
Network Rail and its contractor, Atkins will be installing new power supplies to the railway infrastructure around March.  In order to carry out this work, two footpaths will need to close. Access to the east-bound platform at March Station from Elm Road will need to close for two periods of three days whilst the electricity board lay cables to a new power supply which will serve March station and other railway infrastructure.  Work will start on Monday 19 January and will continue until Monday 15 March. The footpath, which leads from Norwood Road, east of the Norwood Road Bridge, over the railway to Lime Grove will be closed from Monday 2 February until Monday 15 March.  Signs will be erected and the footpath fenced off.  The new power supply in this area will help to run the signalling system.  Jon Wiseman, Network Rail General Manager said:  “We are committed to investing in our railway infrastructure to ensure that our equipment is reliable and safe.  We apologise if the footpath closures cause inconvenience to members of the public, but this work is essential to the safe, well performing operation of East Anglia’s railway.”

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
