Fenchurch Street station closed over Early May Bank Holiday while essential rail works take place

Essential rail works will take place between Fenchurch Street and Barking during the Early May Bank Holiday weekend which means Fenchurch Street station will be closed from Friday 8 May and reopen on Monday 11 May. Those who need to travel are advised to check how their journey will be affected.

Network Rail’s engineers will carry out essential overhead line and maintenance work between Fenchurch Street and Barking. This will keep rail services running and improve reliability for those who need to travel now and for when more passengers return in the future.

Ellie Burrows, Network Rail’s route director for Anglia, said: “Our teams are carrying out vital upgrades and maintenance work to keep the rail network running safely and smoothly, and to reduce the number of delays and cancellations. This will benefit those who need to travel now and improve reliability for when more passengers return. Those who need to travel should check how their journey will be affected.”

Trains will be diverted to London Liverpool Street which is a short walk from Fenchurch Street. Passengers are advised to check before they travel at www.nationalrail.co.uk

Passengers are reminded to only travel if their journey is essential.

Notes to Editors

c2c services will be diverted to start from / terminate at London Liverpool Street and will call additionally at Stratford.

There will be further diversions on the Okendon line diverted between Grays and Barking, via an alternative route, and will call additionally at Purfleet, Rainham and Dagenham Dock. There will be a Grays – Upminster shuttle.

Rainham line trains will be extended to start from / terminate at Southend Central.
