Region & Route:

Network Rail has added another consultation event in Teignmouth, Devon, as they prepare to share their updated plans to protect a section of railway in south Devon that is bordered by steep cliffs on one side and the sea on the other.

Ten public events were already scheduled in the local area during the consultation, which runs from 20 January to 1 March.

Following feedback from the community another has now been added with the extra consultation event taking place at the Pavilions (TQ14 8BG), Teignmouth, from 3pm to 7pm on Monday 10 February.

Now, in total 11 public consultation events will take place with sessions in Holcombe, Dawlish Warren, Dawlish, Newton Abbot. Exeter, Torquay and Teignmouth.  The same information will be shared at all events.

In total Teignmouth will now have three consultation events with two taking place at the golf club (TQ14 9NY) and one at a more central location at the Pavilions.

A free shuttle service will be in place for the consultation events at the golf club on Tuesday 21 January and Thursday 6 February with a fully accessible bus leaving from Teignmouth station to the venue.

On 21 January the shuttle will leave the station for the venue every 20 minutes. The first bus will leave the station at 4pm and then every 20 minutes thereafter with the last one leaving the station at 7.40pm.

The return journey will also depart from the golf club every 20 minutes. The first shuttle will leave at 4.10pm and then every 20 minutes thereafter with the last one leaving the venue at 8pm when the consultation finishes.

On 6 February the shuttle will leave the station for the venue every 20 minutes. The first bus will leave the station at 12pm and then every 20 minutes thereafter with the last one leaving the station at 3.40pm.

The return journey will also depart from the golf club every 20 minutes. The first shuttle will leave at 12.10pm and then every 20 minutes thereafter with the last one leaving the venue at 4pm when the consultation finishes.

Mike Gallop, route director for Network Rail’s Western route, said: “We have listened to feedback from the community and have added an extra consultation event in a more central location in Teignmouth.

“At the events we will share our updated plans with a huge 10 metre model allowing us to give more detail on our proposal than ever before.

“The railway is a vital artery to the South West, which communities, businesses and visitors to the region depend on for connecting with the rest of the UK. We welcome views on our updated proposals before we apply for consent to undertake the work.”

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Every day, there are more than 4.8 million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
