European Athletics travel advice for Alexander Stadium spectators

Athletics fans travelling by train to the Alexander Stadium are being advised to plan ahead for easy journeys to and from the European Athletics Championships.
The highlight of the European athletics calendar gets underway today (10 August), with seven days of events taking place at the stadium in Perry Barr.
Perry Barr station, a short walk from the stadium, is an easy way to get to and from the action as part of a public transport-focused games.
Trains run every half-an-hour from Birmingham New Street and take just 12 minutes to get to Perry Barr station, which was redeveloped in 2022 ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
Anyone planning to travel by train should plan their journey, check before they travel, and allow plenty of time, especially for services which run before and immediately after the athletics start and end.
To help passengers, a team of volunteers from across the rail industry will be available each day at Birmingham New Street and Perry Barr station to help the station teams get everyone safely to and from the event.
Elizabeth Graham, Birmingham New Street station manager, said: "It's great to welcome athletics fans to the city again for a major event at the Alexander Stadium.
"Getting to and from the stadium by train is quick and easy but I'd urge everyone to plan ahead and check before they travel for the best possible journeys. Our station team and volunteers will be on hand throughout the week to answer any travel questions and help passengers have the best possible experience."
Birmingham New Street's biggest resident, Ozzy the Bull, who took permanent residency at the station after the 2022 Commonwealth Games in the city, will also be welcoming visitors to the city, sporting his Ozzy Osbourne-inspired glasses first worn for the recent Ozzy Day celebrations.
