ENSEMBLE ENTERTAINS AT EUSTON

Region & Route:
National
Passengers using Network Rail’s Euston and Liverpool Street stations had a treat today when they were entertained by a travelling Dutch symphony orchestra.  Forty young musicians, known as the Ricciotti Ensemble, pitched up at Euston Station shortly after 2pm and performed outside the main entrance.  As part of their London tour, they played a variety of genres ranging from classical to current day hits including a performance by Maaike Poorthuis, a young opera diva. The orchestra entertained for 20 minutes and then travelled down the circle line to Liverpool Street Station to entertain early commuters. Gijs Kramers, the Ricciotti Ensemble’s conductor said: “We are very excited about playing at two of London’s largest stations, to such a diverse audience and seeing passengers’ reactions.  This is exactly what the Ricciotti Ensemble is all about – reaching out to a wide range of people all in one performance.” The Ricciotti Ensemble has made a name in Holland and across Europe for its unusual choice of locations in which to perform.  The orchestra takes great pride in bringing music to audiences who wouldn’t normally experience such performances. This philosophy has taken them to far flung and unusual corners of the world, from prisons and hospitals to the slums in South Africa, the top of Table Mountain and even the jungle in South America!

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
