Emergency track repairs: London Euston passengers advised to check before they travel this weekend

Passengers are being advised that fewer services will continue running to and from London Euston this weekend while rail engineers complete urgent track repairs in Milton Keynes.

Network Rail teams are working around the clock to repair damaged sections of track on the West Coast Main Line near Bletchley station, following a low-speed derailment on Thursday afternoon (26 June).

Rail engineers have successfully moved the stranded train this afternoon (Friday 27 June), which means a full assessment of the track can now take place and repairs completed.

The track repairs, which affect two of four lines on the West Coast Main Line in Milton Keynes, mean that fewer Avanti West Coast and London Northwestern Railway services will operate to and from London Euston for the remainder of Friday evening (27 June) and on Saturday (28 June).

Steve Hopkinson, operations director for Network Rail’s West Coast South route, said: “We’re working at pace to repair damaged track in Milton Keynes, following a low-speed derailment on Thursday afternoon. Now the stranded train has been moved, we’re able to fully assess the damage to the track and plan our repairs to restore a full timetable for passengers as soon as possible.

“I’m really sorry for the ongoing disruption affecting journeys to and from London Euston and urge people to check before they travel with National Rail Enquiries over the weekend.”

Passengers are advised to check their journeys before travelling at www.nationalrail.co.uk or with their train operator:

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
