DISRUPTION AT LONDON LIVERPOOL STREET

Region & Route:
National

UPDATED 9:15am: some services are running in and out of the station - we anticipate full service by around lunchtime

There has been significant disruption to passenger services in and out of London Liverpool Street this morning (Thurs) following an incident involving Transport for London (TfL) infrastructure.

National Express East Anglia services are affected and passengers are advised to check with them at www.nationalexpresseastanglia.com or with National Rail Enquiries on 08457 48 49 50. It is anticipated that a reduced service in and out of the station will begin later this morning - in the meantime services are terminating at Stratford, Tottenham Hale, Hackney Downs or Seven Sisters.

Last night (Wed) at around 7:25pm a driver of the 1915 service to Southend report hitting debris in the vicinity of a bridge recently installed by TfL over the tracks for the East London Line extension. Under the supervision of emergency services the 25kv electrical current to the overhead power-lines was turned off and train services brought to a halt as a safety precaution.

Structural engineers from TfL's contractors have been on site to assess the damage and to make it safe to enable services to resume. Officials from the Rail Accident Investigation Branch have been in attendance.

TfL are continuing in their work to make the bridge safe as soon as possible and services are expected to resume in to, and out of, Liverpool Street later this morning. A special timetable has been introduced by National Express East Anglia in the meantime.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
