Changes to Huddersfield to York journeys during Sunday rail upgrades

This Sunday (29 September) changes to services will be in place as TRU completes major upgrade work across two sections of the route from Huddersfield to Dewsbury and Leeds to York.
Sheet piling will be carried out at Mirfield station in advance of the new footbridge being installed, and to secure the track and ballast from movement during construction activities.
Before the new track is installed through the Mirfield area at a later date, engineers will also undertake formation work.
Sunday will also see the demolition of part of platform 3 at Mirfield station, whilst the extension of the platform eastwards will create space for the new footbridge.
In Ravensthorpe, the TRU team will complete mining mitigation work to probe, treat and infill voids within the old coal seams under the site, before further upgrades can be carried out in the area.
Elsewhere on the route, track renewal works will be carried out in Thorpe Park area between Cross Gates and Garforth, near Leeds.
Customers are encouraged to plan their journey ahead of time due to the impact these vital upgrades will have on services, with rail replacement buses and diversionary routes in operation.

“Due to the impact this work will have on services, we’re urging customers to check before they travel.”

“It is great to see the amount of work that’s being done to upgrade the railway here in the North. The work at Mirfield and Ravensthorpe will pave the way for essential TRU upgrades to be delivered in years to come, while the new track that’s being installed between Cross Gates and Garforth will future-proof the line.
“As a result of this work, TransPennine Express won’t be able to run trains between Huddersfield and Dewsbury, while services between Leeds and York will use a diversionary route, increasing journey times. Rail replacement services will run between Huddersfield, Dewsbury, and Leeds to keep customers on the move.
“With these two pieces of engineering work on our North route on the same day, we strongly advise customers to check before they travel. For the people who plan to travel across the Pennines, we’ll have extra staff on hand at stations to help people get from A to B.”

Services will be affected between Huddersfield and Dewsbury, closing all lines in between.
The section of the railway between Cross Gates and Garforth will also be closed.
TransPennine Express
Liverpool Lime Street - Newcastle: This service will be split into two. An hourly service will run between Liverpool Lime Street and Huddersfield and an hourly service will run between Leeds and Newcastle. Services divert between Leeds and York using the Castleford diversionary route, extending journey times.
Manchester Airport - Saltburn: This service will be split into two. An hourly service will run between Manchester Airport and Huddersfield, making additional stops at Stalybridge, Mossley, Greenfield, Marsden, and Slaithwaite. An hourly service will run between Dewsbury and Saltburn, making additional calls at Batley, Morley, and Cottingley. Services divert between Leeds and York using the Castleford diversionary route, extending journey times.
Manchester Piccadilly - Hull: Services will start/terminate at Leeds instead of Manchester Piccadilly and will run every two hours. Services will divert between Leeds and Selby using the Castleford diversionary route, extending journey times.
Rail replacement buses
Huddersfield - Dewsbury (all local stations): An hourly rail replacement bus service will run between Huddersfield and Dewsbury, calling at Deighton, Mirfield, and Ravensthorpe. The estimated journey time is 36 minutes.
Huddersfield - Leeds (fast): An hourly rail replacement bus service will run directly between Huddersfield and Leeds. The estimated journey time is 50 minutes.
Huddersfield - Leeds (via Dewsbury): An hourly rail replacement bus service will run between Huddersfield and Leeds, calling only at Dewsbury. The estimated journey time is 65 minutes.
Northern
Blackpool North - York: This service will start/terminate at Leeds instead of York.
Leeds - Selby: Buses will replace trains between Leeds and Selby.
Leeds - York: Buses will replace trains between Leeds and York via Church Fenton.
Rail Replacement Buses
Leeds - Selby: An hourly rail replacement bus service will run between Leeds and Selby, calling at Cross Gates, Garforth, East Garforth, Micklefield, and South Milford. The estimated journey time is 80 minutes.
Leeds - York: An hourly rail replacement bus service will run between Leeds and York, calling at Cross Gates, Garforth, East Garforth, Micklefield, and Church Fenton. The estimated journey time is 95 minutes.
CrossCountry
Newcastle/Edinburgh - Birmingham/Plymouth: Cross Country trains will run to an amended timetable. Services will be diverted between York and Sheffield and will not call at Leeds or Wakefield Westgate.
