Coventry City's promotion parade means busier trains on Bank Holiday Monday

Coventry City Football Club’s celebrations to mark the team’s return to the Premier League are set to bring thousands of fans into Coventry, meaning trains and stations will be busier than normal on Bank Holiday Monday (4 May).

Trains to and from Coventry are expected to be particularly busy before and after the club’s open-top bus parade through the city and the We Are Back festival at the War Memorial Park.

Passengers are advised to plan ahead, check before they travel, and allow extra time for their journeys.

Elizabeth Graham, Network Rail’s Birmingham New Street station manager, said: “We are expecting Birmingham New Street and trains to and from Coventry to be really busy on Monday. We want everyone to get to and from the promotion celebrations safely, so it’s really important to plan ahead and allow extra time.

“We will have a queuing system in place at the station for trains to Coventry to help keep people safe and moving, and extra staff will be on hand to help anyone who needs extra help.”

Following the celebrations, Coventry station, which is managed by Avanti West Coast, will have a queuing system in place with different entry points dependent on destination. Passengers should use:

Warwick Road entrance for Rugby and destinations towards London
Upper-level entrance of new station building for Birmingham New Street, Nuneaton, and Leamington Spa

Maria McCarron, Avanti West Coast station manager at Coventry, said: “We’re working with Network Rail and industry partners to make journeys as comfortable as possible on what is expected to be a very busy day at Coventry station and across the region. Customers are strongly advised to check before they travel and allow extra time for their journey.

“To help everyone get home safely after the celebrations, a queuing system will be in place at the station, where we’ll also have additional staff on hand to assist customers.”

The We Are Back bus parade starts at 1pm and the festival celebrations finish at 7pm.
