Carluke station footbridge undergoes £500k refurbishment

Work begins this week on a £500k upgrade of the footbridge at Carluke Station in South Lanarkshire.
More than 5,000 people use the station every week, with around 75 daily services helping connect the town to Glasgow and the surrounding area.
The bridge, which links platforms 1 and 2, will undergo repairs to the concrete structure and supporting steelwork. Lighting will be replaced, new handrails and anti-slip surfaces installed on the stairs, and paintwork will be touched up where required.
In order for the work to be carried out safely, the footbridge will be closed from Saturday 15 August until Saturday 14 November. There will be a signposted diversion between platforms via the underbridge on Station Road, which is currently the accessible route for those unable to use the stairs. Passengers are advised to allow extra time for their journeys.
Anthony Trodden, scheme project manager at Network Rail, said: "Footbridges are a vital part of stations, and it's important we continue to invest in their upkeep. These improvements will extend the lifespan of the bridge, improve safety and help ensure the footbridge continues to provide a reliable route between platforms.
"We understand this may cause some inconvenience and would like to thank passengers and residents for their patience while these essential improvements are completed."

"These upgrades at Carluke station will make it easier for customers to move between platforms, enhancing their travel experience with us.

Between 15 August and 12 September, work will be carried out overnight from Saturday to Thursday each week. From 19 September to 14 November, overnight work will take place on Saturdays only.
