Rail services are returning to normal at Lichfield Trent Valley station following the completion of platform repair work.

Platform 3 at the station had been temporarily closed for safety reasons, meaning Cross City line trains have been unable to call at the station for several weeks.

However, after Network Rail completed the installation of a temporary support structure the platform has now reopened and Cross City line services are able to call at the station once again from Sunday 5 June.

The completion of the work also means passenger access between Platforms 1 and 2 for West Coast Main Line services will be restored.

Denise Wetton, Central route managing director, said: “This was a challenging project which, due to the position of the platform, involved the overnight closure of part of the busy West Coast Main Line.

“Passenger safety must always come first and I am pleased this work has been completed and services at Lichfield Trent Valley can return to normal once again.”

Jonny Wiseman, customer experience director for West Midlands Trains, said: “I would like to thank our passengers for their patience while this important safety work was completed at Lichfield Trent Valley.

“I appreciate the loss of the direct walking route between platforms was a major inconvenience and I would like to thank Network Rail for carrying out these repairs so quickly to get the station functioning again.”

With many thousands of people expected to join in with celebrations for the Platinum Jubilee this weekend, passengers are reminded to plan their journeys in advance at www.nationalrail.co.uk or with their train operator.

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
