Buckinghamshire railway crossing to be made safer for passengers and public

A footbridge over the Chiltern main line will undergo a major overhaul to make it safer and more reliable for passengers and the public.

A £1.2million investment by Network Rail will see the footbridge at Beaconsfield Golf Club overhauled later this month.

The high-maintenance old footbridge will be entirely replaced with a more reliable, modern structure.

This means fewer railway closures in the future for repairs to take place, and a better way to cross the tracks for pedestrians.

Lawrence James, scheme project manager for Network Rail, said: “Upgrading the public footbridge at Beaconsfield Golf Club will not only ensure that this public right of way is safely maintained for years to come, but will also provide continued reliable journeys for passengers using the Chiltern main line.

“While most passengers will be following government advice to stay at home while this work takes place, those who do still need to use the railway should leave extra time for their journey and check their journey before setting off.”

The essential work means the railway between Bicester and Denham will need to be closed on Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 January 2021.

During this time there will be replacement bus services in operation on the line between High Wycombe and Hillingdon (London Underground) via Denham, Gerrards Cross and Beaconsfield.

Replacement bus services will also be provided from Amersham to High Wycombe and from Aylesbury Vale Parkway to Bicester Village/Bicester North (via Haddenham & Thame Parkway).

Eleni Jordan, commercial & customer strategy director for Chiltern Railways, said: “The important work being carried out by Network Rail will ensure that we can continue to provide a reliable and punctual service for our customers when they can travel again. Customers who need to travel should check their journey via the Chiltern website or app before starting their journey.

“We’d like to thank customers and local residents for their patience and understanding while the work is being completed.”
