Batley station car park to temporarily close as part of major rail upgrade

Batley station car park will close from 22 September until Summer 2026 to facilitate major upgrade work as part of the multi-billion-pound Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU).

The temporary closure will enable essential piling works to take place to build a new accessible station footbridge with lifts. Work will also start to refurbish and extend the platforms to 150m in length to allow longer trains with more seats for passengers to call at the station.

Alternative parking arrangements will be available during the closure period, with spaces for up to 20 vehicles located in Station Road car park in Batley. Dedicated accessible parking for blue badge holders will be provided at the station.

The upgrades will also see the installation of overhead line equipment to power electric trains.

These improvements are part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade, which is transforming rail journeys across the north of England by delivering more frequent, faster trains running on a cleaner, greener and more reliable railway.

Jonathan Hepton, project sponsor for TRU, said: "We apologise for the inconvenience this temporary closure will cause to passengers who regularly use Batley station car park. These vital works at the station will deliver significant long-term benefits.

"The new accessible footbridge with lifts will provide step-free access for all passengers, whilst the platform extensions will enable longer trains with more capacity to serve the station. This investment is part of our commitment to transforming rail travel across the north of England."
