Apply for Network Rail’s apprenticeship programme today

Region & Route:
Scotland’s Railway: Scotland

Network Rail’s industry-leading engineering apprenticeship programme is now open with roles available in Inverness and Helmsdale.

Applicants from all over Scotland are being invited to help shape the future of the rail industry by joining the programme during Scottish Apprenticeship Week (March 1 – March 5).

Between 2019 and 2024, Network Rail Scotland is investing more than £4bn in maintaining, enhancing and operating Scotland’s Railway.

As an apprentice engineer, you’ll be at the heart of national projects while earning as you learn and receiving expert training and on-the-job experience that will take your career to the next level.

After an initial period of online and residential training, you’ll join a depot close to home where you’ll be assigned a specialist pathway and your work will make a difference to millions of passengers and freight customers.

Rachel Hollinger, Apprentice, Graduate Assessment and Induction Manager at Network Rail, said: “The rail industry is going through one of the largest transformations ever and our engineering apprentices are crucial as we build back better from COVID-19.

“All Network Rail apprentices gain valuable skills, experience, and nationally recognised qualifications over three years, while being supported by expert colleagues, allowing them to thrive in the rail industry.

“And after completing our apprenticeship scheme all of our apprentices are perfectly set up to take the next step on their career journeys.”

About Network Rail

We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.

Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
