All Glasgow Central entrances to reopen after Union Street fire
- Region & Route:
- Scotland’s Railway: Scotland
Network Rail will reopen the Union Street and Gordon Street entrances at Glasgow Central, bringing Scotland's busiest railway station fully back to normal ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
The full station concourse will reopen on 13 July when the exclusion zone is removed. On 17 July, the Union Street and Gordon Street entrances will reopen, marking the final step in the station's recovery following the fire in March.
It comes as Glasgow prepares to welcome thousands of visitors for the Commonwealth Games, which begin on 23 July. As one of the city's main transport hubs, Glasgow Central will play a key role in helping people travel across the city during the event.
The return of all station entrances will make it easier for passengers to move through the station, while helping the railway meet increased demand during one of Glasgow's biggest events of the year.
From this week, teams are carrying out final inspections, testing equipment and working with retailers as they prepare to welcome customers back.

"Our teams have worked tirelessly over the past few months to prepare for this moment. Thanks to their efforts, we can now welcome passengers back through every entrance and return Scotland's busiest station to normal operation.
"I'd also like to thank our passengers, retailers and railway colleagues for their patience and support. With the Commonwealth Games just around the corner, it's fantastic to be able to fully reopen the station and help Glasgow welcome visitors from across the world."
Phil Campbell, ScotRail customer operations director, said: "The full reopening of Glasgow Central is a significant milestone for Scotland's Railway and everyone who relies on it.
"Throughout the recovery, our teams worked closely with Network Rail and industry partners to minimise disruption, provide clear travel information, and safely restore services.
"We're pleased to see the station fully reopened and thank our customers for their patience and understanding while this vital work was carried out."
Caledonian Sleeper’s managing director Graham Kelly said: “The full reopening of Glasgow Central Station is fantastic news. It ensures our guests can access all of the facilities of Scotland’s busiest station, providing a smoother journey experience and easy access to key locations around the city and beyond.
"Caledonian Sleeper services have continued to operate consistently since the tragic fire, thanks to our team quickly putting temporary contingency plans in place. As the first experience of Scotland for many guests travelling from London, it's great to see the station restored to full operation.
"I would like to thank our industry colleagues and partners for their commitment throughout this period and helping us continue to deliver an excellent service for our guests."
Mark Green, Avanti West Coast station manager at Glasgow Central, said: “While we resumed our full service at Glasgow Central and reopened our Ticket Office and First Class Lounge back in March, we’ve continued to work closely with Network Rail and industry partners to ensure people can safely move around the station during the partial closure.
“It’s great to see this latest milestone in the station’s reopening, marking another important step in the recovery of this part of Glasgow – a city we’re proud to serve. We’d like to thank customers for their patience and understanding over the last few months.”

About Network Rail
We own, operate and develop Britain's railway infrastructure; that's 20,000 miles of track, 30,000 bridges, tunnels and viaducts and the thousands of signals, level crossings and stations. We run 20 of the UK's largest stations while all the others, over 2,500, are run by the country's train operating companies.
Usually, there are almost five million journeys made in the UK and over 600 freight trains run on the network. People depend on Britain's railway for their daily commute, to visit friends and loved ones and to get them home safe every day. Our role is to deliver a safe and reliable railway, so we carefully manage and deliver thousands of projects every year that form part of the multi-billion pound Railway Upgrade Plan, to grow and expand the nation's railway network to respond to the tremendous growth and demand the railway has experienced - a doubling of passenger journeys over the past 20 years.
